Johnny Perhealth, North Carolina

When I was a young boy, I had a passion for the outdoors. I would see my older brothers with their bows and arrows going hunting so I decided to make my first bow and arrow out of sticks and strings.  I would climb tree limbs and wait all day for a deer to come through. I only had field tips, but I was determined to kill a deer.

A few years later, I saved up my money and bought my first compound bow. A friend of mine, Bill Locklear, invited me to a local archery tournament one day. I had no idea what to expect, but I went and knew right then I was hooked. Bill and my brothers would make me buy lunch when they would beat me, but it wasn’t long after that they were buying me burgers!

I started winning local tournaments so I decided to try national tournaments and I joined ASA! I have been competing for about 18 years now.

Throughout my life, archery and hunting have been my favorite hobbies and I hope I have many more years to enjoy them both!
